Tiedtke sparks No. 1 Huskies

Storrs — Antonia Tiedtke scored three goals and had an assist as No. 1 UConn beat Massachuse­tts 8-0 in a Big East Conference field hockey match on Sunday.

Amanda Collins had two goals and four assists and Margot Colenbrand­er and Casey Umstead had a goal and two assists each for the Huskies (11-0, 3-0).

Senior Nina Klein made one save for her fifth shutout of the season and 31st of her career, two away from the school record of 33 Sarah Mansfield set in 2014. It was also the 650th victory for UConn's Nancy Stevens, the winningest coach in Division I history.

College golf

• Mitchell College finished sixth in the seven-team New England Collegiate Conference championsh­ip at Wachusett (Mass.) Country Club. Nick Knisel led the Mariners with a ninth-place finish with a two-day total of 156, which earned him all-NECC second-team honors. Ledyard's David Eichelberg was one of two players to record an eagle and finished tied for 21st with a 173. Knisel was also named to the all-sportsmans­hip team.

H.S. field hockey

• Molly Quiles and Kaylee Wilcox scored two goals each as Waterford beat Killingly 4-2 in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference game on Saturday. Cassidy Susi, Kaylee Swansen and Quiles had assists and Lili Stoddard made three saves for Waterford (5-3, 4-2).

Road racing

• Christophe­r Zablocki of Essex won the Jack O'Keefe Memorial Strides 10K in Waterford, finishing with a time of 34:41. Linda Spooner of Sturbridge, Mass., was the top women's finisher, coming in fifth at 41:32. Also making the top 10 were Daniel Baldi of Old Saybrook (39:07), Brendan Tierney of Niantic (39:47), Tad Robbins of Kailua, Hawaii (40:09), John Hadcock of Niantic (42:05), Abby Gatheral of Waterford (45:24), John McGrane of Farmington (45:41), Aidan Sullivan of Groton (46:29) and Paul Duff of Lebanon (46:50).

Niantic's Frank Balantic won the 5K race with a time of 18:29 while Kristina Miner was second, and the top women's finisher, at 18:59. Rounding out the top 10 were Josh Grande of Marlboroug­h (20:06), Cindy Ouillette of Moosup (20:09), Xander Jones of Columbia (20:25), Jason Snow of Virginia (21:50), Wyatt Reynolds of Branford (22:17), Vicky Hilton of Norwich (22:36), Bob Edgecomb of Groton (22:49) and Kathleen Johnston of Bradford, R.I. (22:57).

• Frank Balantic of Niantic won the 5K Foot Pursuit in Waterford on Saturday, finishing in 18:23. Donna Black of was the top women's finisher, coming in 16th in 24:45. Also finishing in the top 10 were Chris Montoya (19:20), Aidan Pepin (19:26), Evan Piotrowski (21:38), Vince McCurdy (21:40), Jim Wolfley (21:59), William Perkins (22:03), David Scott (22:47), Kevin Silvestri (23:15) and James Dlubac (23:33).
