Uncasville — Charles J. Schroeder, 78, of Uncasville died Thursday evening, Sept. 28, 2017, at The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich. He was born Sept. 24, 1939, in Harrison, N.Y., one of 12 children, to Harry and Alice (Thomas) Schroeder. He was predecease­d by his wife, Lorraine “Nancy” Leonard Schroeder. He retired from Electric Boat as a foreman.

Charlie was lovingly known as “Pop,” and his family was his whole world. The biggest joy in his life was traveling with his wife, Nancy. He was generous and kind and was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed fishing, coaching Little League in Uncasville, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his son, Charles J. Jr. (Amy) Schroeder; daughters, Deborah (Courtland) Brown and Karen (Paul) Cummings; grandchild­ren, Christophe­r, Erin, Jessica, Courtland, Dawn, Jeff, David, Laurel, AmberLynn, Michael and Tiffany; great-grandchild­ren, Chace, Trinatey, Destiny, Claire, Jeffrey, Alexander, Lorelai; his loving companion, Maddie; brothers, Shay and Stephen; and sisters, Nancy Kexek, Denise Goins, Dolores Sullivan and Jacqueline Hossler. Besides his wife, Nancy, he was predecease­d by a sister, Barbara Hargey, and brothers, Fred, Harry Jr., Adrian and Peter.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

A memorial service will be held graveside at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at the St. Mary Cemetery, New London.
