H.S. FOOTBALL/WEEK 5 CAPSULES

- — Mike DiMauro

Today's Games Plainfield at Stonington, 6:30 p.m. Records: Plainfield (3-0); Stonington (1-2) Last week: Plainfield was idle; Stonington defeated Montville 35-0 Outlook: Stonington’s first win of the season last week was a big one. It gives the Bears, the lone remaining undefeated team in the division, the inside track on the ECC Division II title. This week, they play Division III Plainfield, thus unbeaten with wins over CREC, Bacon Academy and Windham. Stonington’s double wing overwhelmed Montville last week. Old Saybrook/Westbrook at Valley/Old Lyme, 6:30 p.m.

Records: OSW (4-0, 3-0 Pequot Sassacus); Valley/OL (3-0, 2-0)

Last week: OSW defeated Lewis Mills 34-14; Valley/OL was idle Outlook: It wasn’t five minutes after Valley/Old Lyme’s last game, a win over Coginchaug, that coach Tim King began talking about Old Saybrook/Westbrook. “That’s a good football team,” he told his players. And the record supports it: Old Saybrook/ Westbrook joins Valley and Cromwell/Portland as the unbeaten teams in the Pequot Sassacus. The winner of this game stays in contention for the title. Saturday's Game Thames River at Bullard Havens, noon

Records: Thames River (1-2, 1-2 Connecticut Technical Conference); Bullard Havens (4-0, 3-0) Last week: Thames River defeated Wolcott Tech/Housatonic/ Wamogo 38-0; Bullard Havens defeated ATI 50-12

Outlook: Zach Jackson completed 7 of 9 passes for 92 yards and three touchdowns and scored on a 20-yard run as Thames River won for the first time last week under new coach Darin Jones. Trey Stimson ran 20 times for 120 yards and a touchdown and Ismael Rivera had two interceptions. The Crusaders will need all that and more this week against what appears to be the class of the CTC.
