New London — Emma Viola (Lloyd) Lieteau, 90, of New London passed away on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, at the Bayview Healthcare Center in Waterford, where she resided for the last 10 years.

Emma was born on Sept. 17, 1927, in New Orleans, La., to Arthur Lloyd and Viola (Joseph) Lloyd. She was the youngest daughter of eight children, who have all predecease­d her.

Emma’s love for working with children led her to obtain her associate’s degree in early childhood education at the Tidewater Community College in Virginia Beach, Va., later in her life. She enjoyed working with children. Emma had a witty sense of humor that was often displayed during her visits from her family. She especially loved the annual Mardi Gras parties that her family would hold for her at Bayview. She enjoyed flowers, music, and took her most memorable trip to Canada with her senior citizens group the Golden Inspiratio­ns, where she was an active member. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed visits from members of the church. Emma is survived by her eight children, Sylvia Lieteau of Madison, Wis., Maria Lieteau of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Joseph Lieteau of Attleboro, Mass., Wanda Lieteau Evans of Gahanna, Ohio, Gregory Lieteau of Long Beach, Calif., Patricia Lieteau of Oakdale, Cheryl Lieteau of Dudley, Mass., and Emma Lee Lieteau of Old Lyme. Her sons/ daughters-in-law, Maryann Lieteau, Ernest Evans, Phoebe Lieteau, Mark Lee and Sandy Lieteau. Emma also leaves behind several grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at the Lester Gee Funeral Home, 108 Blinman St., New London. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
