Mystic — Alan Laurie Greener of Mystic died on Oct. 6, 2017. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Feb. 1, 1935, to Dr. John Greener and Claire Greaves Greener. Alan was a graduate of the South Kent School (1954), and went on to study business at Dartmouth College (1958) and Tuck Business School (1959) in Hanover, N.H. On Sept. 19, 1959, Alan married Margot Moore in Stonington.

He is survived by his wife, Margot, and his four children, Sarah Lee Willey and her husband, Jeffrey Willey; Laurie Sears and her husband, Ted Sears; Matthew Greener and his wife, Linda Hoffman; and Whitney Greener. He is also survived by his six grandchild­ren, Jeremy Collins, Shannon Schultz, Emily Collins, Jack Sears, Helen Sears and Anne Greener; and his siblings, Ann Ottaviano, Betty Henry and Jay Greener. Alan was predecease­d by his parents.

From 1959-1963, Alan served in the Army Finance Corps. He spent his business career in the medical supplies industry. His greatest passion was music and singing, which he pursued from his youth throughout his life. As a boy, he was a member of the Grace Church Choir in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a member of the Dartmouth Glee Club and the University Glee Club of New York City. While living in Texas, he sang with the Border Chorders, and in Pennsylvan­ia was a member of Peddler’s Pack. For many years, Alan was a proud and active member of the Mystic Congregati­onal Church Choir and the Chorus of Westerly. Alan was a member of the Mason’s Island Yacht Club and served as Commodore from 1996-1998.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Mystic Congregati­onal Church. The service will be followed by a reception at the Mason’s Island Yacht Club.
