North Stonington — Alma R. (Vars) Limpert, 85, of North Stonington passed away at the Westerly Hospital on Oct. 8, 2017. She was the beloved wife of Frank A. Limpert Sr. for over 63 years. Sadly, he predecease­d her on Oct. 9, 2013.

Alma leaves her brother, Wilfred Vars of Pawcatuck; her sister, Joyce Boner of Plant City, Fla.; two sons, Frank and David; seven grandchild­ren; two great-grandchild­ren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was predecease­d by her sister, Theresa Park.

Born in Greenport, Long Island, N.Y. on Aug. 26, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Albert Vars and Alice Rose (LaVigne) Vars.

Alma was a life member of the North Stonington Grange, and the North Stonington Baptist Church.

Mrs. Limpert had a passion for real estate; she owned and operated Limpert Realty for over 35 years. Along with her husband and sons, she also owned and operated several restaurant­s, including the Wood River Inn located in Hope Valley, R.I. and the Whistle Stop in North Stonington.

Very historical­ly minded, Alma and Frank moved and restored a one-room schoolhous­e to the original foundation of the District 2 Schoolhous­e circa in the center of the village. They named the schoolhous­e after Marcia Thompson, one of the few remaining one-room school teachers, and held a dedication day in her honor.

Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the North Stonington Baptist Church, Rocky Hollow Road, North Stonington. Burial will follow in Wheeler Cemetery.
