Waterford boys play Stonington to 1-1 tie

Stonington — It took 11 games for the Stonington High School boys' soccer team to finally end up with a blemish on its record.

But the Bears remain undefeated after tying Waterford 1-1 in double overtime on Tuesday in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division II match.

Blake Edwards scored off an assist from Cam Whalen 33 minutes into the game to forge the tie. Goalie Adam Gibbs had five saves for the Bears (10-0-1, 5-0-1).

Waterford's Avery Albanese opened the scoring with an unassisted goal. The Lancers are 6-4-1, 4-2-1. In other games: • Scott Pion had three goals as Wheeler blanked Plainfield 4-0 in an ECC Division III game. Ryan Condon had a goal and an assist for the Lions (58, 4-5) and Seth Jones and Ian Spracklin had assists. Also, Bowen Baker had five saves.

• Alec Kosinski scored three goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lift East Lyme past Fitch 3-2 in ECC Division I action. The Vikings improved to 6-2-2, 5-0-1. Andrew Kerst and Trey Adams scored for the Falcons (6-6-1, 3-4) and Calvin Jacey added two assists.

• Max Knowlton, Armstrong Alicius and Whenderson Delphin scored goals in Norwich Free Academy's 3-0 shutout of Ledyard in ECC Division I. Goalie Troy Maurer made 10 saves for the Wildcats (4-5-1, 4-1-1). The Colonels fell to 7-5, 1-4.

• Tenzin Jamphel scored two goals and Hunter Bailargero­n added one in St. Bernard's 5-3 loss to Griswold in ECC Division III. The Saints dropped to 2-9-1, 2-7-1.

• Montville scored four goals in the second half to break open a tight game and post a 6-1 win over Killingly in ECC Division II. Ethan Rose had two goals and an assist while Joseph Andrews had two goals and Jose Zuniga and Quinn Bond also scored for the Indians (4-6-1, 2-4-1).

• Peter Sherman scored Old Lyme's only goal on a penalty kick in an 8-1 Shoreline Conference loss to Haddam-Killingwor­th. The Wildcats are 0-7-3.

• Austin DeRosiers had three goals for Ellis Tech in its 5-1 win over Grasso Tech in a Connecticu­t Technical Conference game. Gerson Piche scored, Kevin Vazquez had the assist, and Joel Potter had 12 saves for the Eagles (3-7).

Girls

• Mia Londregan, Lindsay Clement, Sarah Forrester and Brooke Paradis each scored a goal in St. Bernard's 4-0 win over New London. Emily Smith, Angela Abraham and Hope D'Amico had assists for the Saints (7-3). Goalie Jaelynn Potter had 13 saves for the Whalers (2-8).

• Savannah Johnson made 12 saves in Wheeler's 6-0 loss to Plainfield in ECC Division III. The Lions fell to 0-10-1, 0-8.

Swimming

• Mary Kathryn Taylor won the 100-yard freestyle and swam on two winning relay teams as East Lyme remained unbeaten in the ECC with a 9965 win over Fitch. Grace Vlaun (200 free), Ashwini Sahasrabud­he (200 IM), Katie Keating (100 butterfly) and Erin Munch (100 backstroke) also won individual events for the Vikings (10-1, 9-0) while Alyson Lowney captured the 50 free and and 500 free for the Falcons (4-4, 4-4).

• Waterford defeated Windham/Lyman 96-58 in the ECC. Sophia Podeszwa won the 50-meter freestyle (33.10) and diving (238.15 points) while joining Megan Wyatt, Zora LaBonte and Molly Reagan on the winning 200 medley relay team for the Lancers (7-3, 7-3). Waterford's Ella Dyjak won the 200 IM (2:38.92) and 100 freestyle (1:03.57) and teammate Viviana Martinez won the 400 freestyle (5:40.48).

• Old Lyme/Valley Regional lost at home to Windsor Locks/Ellington/East Granby, 80-49. The Wildcats picked up individual wins from Kim Beradis (100 backstroke), Anna Donato (diving) and Connie Pan (100 free).

Volleyball

• Karly Morales had 20 assists as Fitch rallied past Griswold 25-22, 23-25, 23-25, 2512, 15-10. Nora Ryan had 17 digs and 10 kills for Fitch (7-6) and Aby Hagley added six aces.

• Lyman Memorial outlasted Waterford 25-19, 25-18, 1725 and 25-17 in a nonleague match. Molly Kosma had 27 digs for the Lancers (9-3) while Rylei Gonyo added 17 kills and Gretchen Dusza had 42 assists.

• Una Barrett had six assists and Maddie Cann added three aces and two kills in Old Lyme's 3-0 Shoreline Conference loss to Morgan. Game scores were 25-14, 25-14 and 25-12.

• Kayley Ericson had 31 assists and five digs to highlight NFA's 25-16, 25-18, 25-14 win over Bacon. Eliana Jewell added 10 kills and four digs for the Wildcats (5-6) and Bailey Guillemett­e had nine kills.

• Cheney Tech defeated Grasso Tech 25-11, 25-14, 25-9 in the CTC. Erin Blake had 11 digs and two assists for Grasso while Ahyvon Evans had eight digs, two kills and two assists and Abigail Duverge had two kills, six digs and three service points.

Field hockey

• Emily Claspell made 10 saves in NFA's 4-0 loss to Morgan, which received all four goals from Abby Mealarne. The Wildcats are 0-9 overall.
