Something is very wrong

I, too, am saddened by recent events in Las Vegas and must concur with the title of The Day’s editorial, “Something’s Very Wrong,” (Oct. 2). There is something very wrong with the sanctioned narrative of the Mandalay murders. Something is very wrong when the official story speaks of one shooter while eyewitnesses and police audios account for multiple shooters. The “lone nut gunman” meme is a very American institution, like the Super Bowl and revolving credit card debt. Something is very wrong when The Day solemnly lists firearms fatalities but never credits the thousands of instances where guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens save lives. Something is very wrong when politicians (typically Northeastern types) jump on the “banwagon” before the bodies have been tagged and the blood cleared. Something is very wrong when real inquiries into the true motives, agendas, and scenarios behind these events go unasked. Something is very wrong when “gun-free zones” are assumed to be safe. Something is very wrong when crime is highest where “gun control” is strictest. Chicago, anyone? And something is very wrong when massacres of this type are used by gun-grabbers for cheap political gain: that’s not only reprehensible, it’s plain creepy. Eric Straub Niantic
