NL CREWS RESPOND TO SOBER HOME DEATH, TWO OD IN A WEEK
S New London — First responders within four days responded to two overdoses and a death at a sober home, according to police and fire officials.
The first overdose occurred about 9 p.m. Oct. 6 on Cape Ann Court. According to fire officials, a 23-year-old man wasn’t breathing when emergency personnel arrived. Firefighters administered the opioid overdose-reversal drug Narcan and took him to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
By the time the crew got to the hospital, firefighters said, the man had begun breathing on his own.
The second incident happened the next day, Oct. 7, at 851 Bank St. According to police records, 851 Bank is a sober house.
Fire officials said a 52-yearold man was dead in a chair before crews arrived at 2:30 a.m. Police, who are investigating the death, said they’re awaiting lab results to determine the cause of death.
On Monday, the friends of an overdosing 25-year-old man dropped him off at the New London Fire Department’s North Station, 240 Broad St., about 10 a.m.
According to fire officials, the man was in cardiac arrest: he had no pulse and wasn’t breathing. Firefighters began CPR as they transported the man to L+M, where medical personnel took over. The man didn’t regain consciousness while firefighters were on scene.
Fire officials didn’t have information about whether the man survived.
Police said the listing used (678) 653-5583 as the contact number. In this case, the person asked individuals to send money via Western Union in order to get the keys to the apartment.
A similar incident happened this past summer with a property in Groton, police said. The offender used the same phone number.

Beware of offers involving shipping — deal with locals you can meet in person. Never wire funds. Don’t accept cashier/certified checks or money orders — banks cash fake checks, then hold you responsible.
Transactions are between users only; no third party provides a “guarantee.”
Never give out financial info (bank account, Social Security, Paypal account, etc).
Do not rent or purchase without seeing the property.
Refuse background and credit checks until you have met landlord/employer in person.
