Lisbon — Robert V. Barclay, 73, passed away peacefully early the morning of Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

He was born in New London on Feb. 3, 1944, a son to the late Virginia (Fadden) and William J. Barclay Sr. Bob was united in marriage to Deborah A. (Malinowski) Barclay, on Nov. 10, 1973, at St. Mary’s Church in New London.

Bob graduated from New London High School in 1962 where he excelled in both basketball and baseball. Upon graduation he was initially employed by Pfizer Inc. and subsequent­ly spent 38 years as an employee of General Dynamics (Electric Boat Division). During this time period, he joined the National Guard.

Bob played basketball in the New London City League and baseball in the Morgan League. He was also an Eastern Board official in basketball and served as its past president. As well as being devoted to his family, Bob was an avid Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots and UConn basketball fan. Golf was a favorite sport of his in later years.

In addition to his wife, Debbie; he is survived by two daughters, Lisa Zuppe and husband, Mark and Vicki Waz and husband, Rob; two grandsons, Bobby and Brady Waz; two brothers, Jack Barclay and wife, Diane and William Barclay Jr. and wife, Ellen; and several nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the staff at The William W. Backus Hospital, Hartford Healthcare at Home Hospice and Norwichtow­n Rehabilita­tion and Care Center.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at St. Mary’s Church in Jewett City. The funeral will assemble at the church. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Jewett City. Interment with military honors will be within the St. Mary’s Cemetery on Lillipond Road, Griswold.
