East Lyme closes in on the ECC Division I volleyball crown

Ledyard — East Lyme remained unbeaten in Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division I play with a 25-11, 25-15, 25-22 win over Ledyard in a volleyball match on Monday.

Lauren Imbriaco had five kills and four blocks and Jamie Stevens had three aces and 25 assists for East Lyme (9-5, 5-0), which can wrap up the title with a win over Fitch on Friday. Maddie Pipech had five kills and Isabelle Hammar had three blocks for Ledyard (7-9, 1-4).

• Kayley Ericson had 39 assists as NFA beat Fitch 25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 2515 in an ECC Division I match. Eliana Jewell had 18 kills and eight digs and Ericson had 11 digs and four aces for NFA (6-8, 3-3). Karly Morales had 14 assists, Aby Hagley had 21 digs and Ciarra Jimenez had 12 kills for Fitch (9-7, 4-2).

• Montville snapped a four-match losing streak with a 25-15, 25-20, 2518 win over Bacon Academy in an ECC Division II match. Mackenzie Ullrich had 18 assists, Abby Diamantini had nine digs, Haley Kerwin had five kills and six digs, Savanna Perkins had six aces, Greta Cook had four kills and Indigo Whisman had five digs and three aces for Montville (5-10, 1-4).

• Lyman Memorial beat Wheeler 25-4, 25-11, 25-8 in an ECC Division III match. Nikki Collins had four kills and seven digs and Sarah Spracklin had three kills, an ace and four digs for Wheeler (6-9, 1-5).

• Old Lyme lost to Coginchaug in a Shoreline Conference match, 25-13, 25-17, 25-20. Natalie Golden had three aces and three digs and Maddie Cann had seven digs for Old Lyme.

• Wilcox Tech beat Norwich Tech 2523, 20-25, 17-25, 25-19, 15-10 in a Connecticu­t Technical Conference match. Halle Baron had 14 digs and four aces, Courtney Majewski had 10 kills and Emily Cherwin had 10 kills and eight aces for Norwich Tech (13-4).

H.S. girls' swimming

• East Lyme won all three relays, but lost to Conard 93-91 in a nonleague meet. Mary Kathryn Taylor, Katie Keating, Grace Vlaun and Taylor Gray won events for East Lyme (10-2). Contributi­ng for the relays wins were Erin Munch, Lauren Real, Kate Orefice, Gray, Keating, Taylor and Vlaun.

Boys' cross country

• Stonington picked up a pair of wins, beating Wheeler 28-31 and Fishers Island 15-50 in a nonleague meet. Teddy Nosiku of Wheeler won the race with a time of 18:22 and teammates Mike Carroll (2nd, 19:23) and Ethan Smith (5th, 19:41) also made the top five. Stonington (7-5) was led by Mark Costanzo (3rd, 19:31) and Daniel Robinson (4th, 19:35). Wheeler (7-5) beat Fishers Island 17-46.

• Williams School won the threeteam Hamden Hall Invitation­al on Saturday. The Blues were led by Will Jarrett's third-place finish (18:52). Teammates Colin Madaus (4th, 19:09) and Hartmut Doerwaldt (5th, 19:10) also made the top five.

Girls' cross country

• Stonington took the top five spots and picked up a pair of wins, beating Wheeler 15-48 and Fishers Island 1550 in a nonleague meet. Lily Anderson won the race in 21:44 followed by Liz Gray (22:11), Lindsey Orr (22:11), Caroline Morehouse (23:38) and Abby Remmert (24:02) for the Bears (111). Brittney Riggins of Wheeler (5-8), which beat Fishers Island 15-50, was sixth at 24:41.

• Williams School finished second at the four-team Hamden Hall Invitation­al on Saturday. Mary Madaus led Williams with a second-place finish (22:40) and teammate Grace Cassineri was third in 23:15.

College honors

• Coast Guard freshman Kaitlyn Mooney was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Runner of the Week in women's cross country. She won the Connecticu­t College Invitation­al, breaking her own 6K school record with a time of 21:35.

• Mitchell College's Nick Knisel was named the New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week in men's golf. The sophomore tied his season low with a 76 at the Mitchell Invite, capping a season in which he led the Mariners in scoring average at 80.6.

• Geralson Withrow of Ledyard was named the NECC Rookie of the Week in men's cross country. Withrow, a freshman at Newbury, finished 39th at the Emmanuel Invitation­al with a personal-best time of 28:44.
