Preston — Michael J. Gladue of Preston died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2017, at his home with his family at his side. Born on Oct. 22, 1940, he was the son of the late Arthur Gladue and Helen Clang Gladue. He was united in marriage to Barbara (Lee) Gladue on May 2, 1964.

Mike worked at Electric Boat General Dynamics in Groton for 26½ years, belonging to the Internatio­nal Brotherhoo­d of Electric Workers.

In earlier years he was involved with Preston City Fire Department, Preston Fair, and Preston Girls Softball League as a coach. He played semipro football on the Fairhaven Varsity Club in 1965. He was a past member of Norwich Lions and lifetime member of the Maennercho­r Club.

As well as being devoted to his family and loved family events, he was an avid N.Y. Yankee, N.Y. Giants, and UConn fan. He loved his golf, especially when he hit his hole in one!

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Lee) Gladue, he is survived by two daughters, Michelle L. Gladue of Plainville and Melissa L. Withbroe and husband, Greg, of Gales Ferry; and granddaugh­ter Josephine J. Withbroe of Gales Ferry. He always smiled when Josie was around and was so proud of her! He is also survived by three sisters, Winifred Sirpenski of Uncasville, Patricia Gileau of Voluntown and Joanne Woodmansee of Norwich; two brothers, Donald Gladue of Bridgeport and Richard Gladue of Georgia; many wonderful nieces and nephews; and was Godfather to Robert Gladue, Terry Coney, and the late Roland David Paradis III.

He was predecease­d by four brothers, Robert, Howard “Sandy,” Lewis and Arthur Gladue; sister Gladys Hiscock; and stepfather Howard Melvin.

The funeral will assemble at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 141 Central Ave., Norwich, followed by a service at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Norwich. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct 18, at the funeral home.
