Preston — Felicia Fenton, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017.

She was born in Norwich, on April 16, 1930, to the late Elmo and Mabel (Lewis) Whitten.

Having a father in the military, Felicia and her sisters were raised in many states across the country. Living in California in her late teens, she would regularly go to the ports and welcome the sailors coming off the ship. It was here that she met the love of her life, Paul Fenton. They wed in 1949. From there they built a home and settled in Groton. It was there that they raised four sons.

Felicia had many jobs throughout her life which included waitress, real estate agent and the last being a slot attendant at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Paul and Felicia owned and operated Fentera’s Restaurant and Lounge. After Paul passed away in 1991, Felicia made her home with her son, Thomas and his wife, Charlotte, in Preston for the next 25 years.

Survivors include her four sons and their wives, Paul and Dawn of Elizabethtown, N.Y., Daniel and Deborah, Thomas and Charlotte all of Preston, and Mark Fenton of Beavertown, Ore.; and her sister, Jackie Jones of Groton. She was a compassionate and loving grandmother to Jennifer Gileau, Leigh Melia, Jonathan Fenton, Kristen Farley, Stephanie Colby, Kendal Fenton, Danielle Aspinwall, Shalene Fenton, Stacey Curry and Brandon Fenton. She also leaves 20 great-grandchildren and her beloved fourlegged companion, Myette.

She was predeceased by her husband, Paul; and sister, Joan Nassetta.

The family would like to thank her caregiver, Connie Kennebrew. She made these last few weeks bearable, giving mom the best care and dignity anyone could ask for. We will forever be grateful.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Felicia’s memory to Preston City Congregational Church or Center for Hospice Care Southeastern Connecticut.
