Norwich police trade fire with home invasion suspect in chase
Residents of Greeneville area told to stay inside
Norwich — An armed suspect wanted in a home invasion and attempted murder incident Saturday night led police on a foot chase Tuesday evening with shots exchanged, prompting police to urge residents to “shelter in place” and to call 911 to report any suspicious activity, including a person running, police Chief Patrick Daley said. No officers were injured, he said. The suspect, Brandon Uzialko, 25, had been wanted on a warrant for attempted murder, home invasion, first-degree assault and risk of injury to a minor in the home invasion incident, which occurred at 10:21 p.m. Saturday. The male victim suffered life-threatening stab wounds, and police said he was listed in critical condition at a hospital not disclosed by police.
Large areas of Greeneville were blocked off, including Central Avenue, Prospect Street and Boswell Avenue in the area of 10th Street, with cruisers and yellow tape blocking off the roads. Police were seen carrying rifles while officers also were stopping cars and questioning drivers. Officers were directing northbound traffic in the area toward North Main Street, though the southbound lane was closed.
On Tuesday night, police encountered Uzialko in the area of Boswell Avenue and Broad Street, Daley said. A foot chase ensued and the suspect was believed to be headed toward upper Boswell Avenue and Greeneville. Uzialko is described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall with brown hair, brown eyes and a beard.
Daley described the situation as “very active and very serious.” Other area departments, including Groton and state police, were assisting with the investigation, which was ongoing at deadline.
