These candidates work across party lines

-

New London Board of Education candidates have worked together.

In 2012, a group of parents and community members joined together to advocate for New London’s schools and students. Sharing our concerns about a range of issues, the group formed New London Parent Advocates (NLPA). This year, three founding members — Regina Mosley, Kathy Skrabacz and Mirna Martínez are running for seats on the Board of Education.

For almost two years, the three of us, representing the Democratic, Republican, and Green Parties, respectively, along with other advocates, wore “red to the Board of Ed” and worked together to advance common goals. We ate together, mapped out issues, attended meetings, and planned events.

Partisan political operatives urge voters and candidates alike to support only those who share their party alignment. Looking to the future, we need to change that.

As New London schools face turnover on the board and in the superintendent’s office, candidates’ history of involvement is more important than ever. Having attended dozens of meetings, we can provide continuity through this time of transition. We ask our city’s voters to look past party lines and choose Board of Education members who can do the same, for the benefit of our city, our schools, and our students.
