Conn women clinch No. 2 seed for NESCAC soccer tourney

New London — Connecticu­t College clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming New England Small College Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament with a 2-0 victory over Wesleyan on Tuesday in the regular-season finale.

The Camels (12-2-1, 7-2-1) needed only 11 seconds to take command when freshman Kat Norton took the opening kickoff and blasted a shot into the net from the left side.

Conn added an insurance goal in the 70th minute when Michelle Medina took a pass from Alex Baltazar and blasted a shot into the upper left corner.

Goalie Bryanna Montalvo made two saves as Conn posted its eighth shutout of the season.

The Camels will host a quarterfin­al round game in the NESCAC tournament on Saturday against an opponent and time to be determined.

Men's soccer

• Senior Luke Telang scored his fourth goal of the season as Coast Guard Academy edged UMass Dartmouth 1-0. Sophomore Pryor Miller earned his first collegiate point on the assist for the Bears (9-4-3). Mike Tranghese had four saves for the Corsairs (3-10-1).

Girls' soccer

• Emily Smith scored twice and Alicia Crespo had two assists as St. Bernard topped Wheeler 5-3 in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division III game. Angela Abraham, Caroline Codner and Victoria Hannaford also scored for the Saints (10-6, 9-3). Emma Morgan had two goals and an assist for the Lions (1-14-1, 1-11) and Lydia Robert scored.

• Kayla Markovitz and Karlie Rowe each scored two first-half goals in East Lyme's 9-0 victory over New London in ECC Division II. The Vikings led 7-0 at halftime. Alex Chambers, Georgia Parsons, Laura Agbayani, Isabelle Riker and Sophie Taylor also scored for East Lyme (86-2, 6-1-1) and Alivia Catanzaro had two assists. New London finished the season 3-12-1, 0-8.

• Anayia Arauji scored back-toback goals in nine minutes to give Bullard-Havens a 3-2 win over Grasso Tech in the Connecticu­t Technical Conference. Arauji tied the game at 2 in the 49th minute. She scored the game-winner in the 58th minute. Kelly Duarte and Morgan McNeil both had goals for the Eagles (3-10-2) and Cheyla Archer had 14 saves.

H.S. field hockey

• Morgan Crandall had a goal and an assist to highlight East Lyme's 5-0 win over Norwich Free Academy in the ECC. Maya Rose, Kristen Healy, Bella Wild and Lindy Erickson also scored goals for the Vikings (8-8, 8-4) while Katie Durkee, Nancy Alden and Julia Bates added assists. NFA is 0-13, 0-10.

H.S. swimming

• East Lyme completed a perfect regular season in the ECC with a 95-86 victory over NFA. Ashwini Sahasrabud­he (200 freestyle), Alissa Li (200 IM), Katie Keating (100 butterfly) and Victoria Chen (100 backstroke) won individual events for the Vikings (12-2, 10-0) while Ciara McDonough (50 free, 100 free) and Gloria Ng (500 free, 100 breaststro­ke) were double winners for the Wildcats (3-8-1, 2-7).

H.S. volleyball

• Halle Barton had 16 service points and 13 assists to highlight Norwich Tech's 25-17, 21-25, 25-8, 25-19 victory over Old Lyme. Courtney Majewski added 16 service points, six aces and eight digs for the Warriors (14-5) and Emily Cherwin had 10 kills. Lauren Williams had 10 digs and two assists while Una Barrett added 13 assists for Old Lyme.

Boys' soccer

• Cesar Amaya scored the game-winning goal as New London ended its season with a 3-2 win over St. Bernard on Monday night. Luis Rodriguez (penalty kick) and Collin Hanson (assisted by Brennan Aidan) also scored for the Whalers, who finish 4-11-1. The Saints finish 3-11-2.
