Constitution protects from Trump power grab
It is imperative to remember our history as a young nation during this turbulent time. After the Revolution, the Founding Fathers wrote a Constitution that had several purposes. Freedom from a monarchy was one. The colonists had enough of a system that allowed one individual to impose rules and regulations that hurt the many. Thus, the founders developed the notion of three divisions to a government “in Order to form a more perfect Union,” namely the executive, legislative and judicial branches.
It appears the founders saw President Trump coming as they wrote the Constitution. They predicted, it seems, that among the persons who may become president there may be one who attempts to behave as the King of England had, imposing rules and attempting to legislate how things would be done, thus making life harder for Americans and not better.
Trump came along just as our legislative branch is dysfunctional and at its weakest, unable to execute its duty to address properly the country’s needs. Then there is the judiciary. Repeatedly, Trump has felt the impact of the founders’ foresight, as individual states and various organizations have challenged his attempts at oneman rule in our courts and taught him that our Constitution is in place to prevent a dictatorship. Thanks to Thomas Jefferson and all the founders for their vision. Paul A. Berkel Mystic
