Hutchins sparks Ledyard into ECC boys’ soccer quarters

Ledyard — Trevor Hutchins' second goal of the game came 6:17 into overtime and lifted No. 8 Ledyard to a 2-1 win over No. 9 Waterford on Wednesday in the first round of the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference boys' soccer tournament.

The Colonels play at No. 1 Windham in the quarterfin­als Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Hutchins gave Ledyard (11-5-1) the lead with an unassisted goal in the 47th minute. Nate McCracken assisted on the game winner and Ken Turner made 10 saves for Ledyard.

Jose Guevara-Gomez scored in the 64th minute with Brent Rutchick assisting and AJ Sachatello made five saves for the Lancers (7-8-2). In other games: • Jack Gelhaus scored on a penalty kick with 17:58 left in the second half to break a 2-2 tie and lead No. 6 Woodstock Academy to a 3-2 win over No. 11 Fitch in the ECC tournament. Thomas Taber of Fitch (7-9-1) tied the game at 2-2 on a penalty kick 46 seconds before Gelhaus' goal. Alex Delcampo also scored for Fitch.

Girls' soccer

• Claudia Blazquez scored her first career goal on a breakaway with 16 minutes left in the game to lift No. 10 Waterford past No. 7 Montville, 1-0, in the first round of the ECC tournament. Jacklyn Lavoie had the assist and Skyler Henry had six saves for the Lancers (8-8-1), who will play at No. 2 Bacon Academy in Friday's quarterfin­als. Lauren Ross had eight saves for the Indians (10-6-1), which beat Waterford twice during the regular season.

• Karlie Rowe had five goals and an assist as No. 4 East Lyme overwhelme­d No. 13 Killingly, 7-1, in the ECC tournament. Alivia Catanzaro and Kayla Markovitz each had a goal and an assist for the Vikings (9-6-2), who will play No. 5 NFA on Friday. Taylor Torcoletti scored for Killingly (7-8-2).

• Juliette Hogan had a goal and an assist and Kayla Park added two assists as No. 5 Norwich Free Academy downed No. 12 Ledyard, 3-0, in the ECC tourney. Jillian Brunelli scored for the Wildcats (12-5). Delaney Gagnon had 11 saves for the Colonels (78-2).

• Madison Lynch and Ashley Sprang both scored in the second half as No. 11 Fitch beat No. 6 St. Bernard in the ECC tournament, 2-0. Francesca Foster made four saves for Fitch (6-8-3). Briana Beverly made 12 saves for the Saints (10-7). Fitch plays at No. 3 Woodstock in a quarterfin­al on Friday.

Volleyball

• Jamie Stevens had 34 assists and 12 digs as East Lyme beat Guilford 2521, 25-18, 16-25, 11-25, 15-11 in a nonleague match. Sydney Iannantuon­o had 15 kills and 13 digs, Madison Bell had 28 digs and five aces and Lauren Imbriaco had five blocks and five kills for East Lyme (12-6). Emma Appleman had 14 kills and seven digs for Guilford (18-2).

• Savannah Galluci had 24 assists and 12 digs as Wheeler beat New London 25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21. Nikki Collins had 13 digs, 10 kills and four aces for Wheeler (9-9) and Sarah Spracklin had nine kills, seven digs and two aces. Madyson Robledo Ramsey had 23 digs, six kills and four blocks, Adeliz Cordero had 20 digs and three kills, and Jemima Appolon had 13 assists and four kills. Also, Natalia Paul had seven blocks.

• Kayley Ericson had 27 assists, eight digs and six aces as NFA beat Waterford 25-18, 25-13, 20-25, 25-9. Eliana Jewell had 11 kills and 10 digs and Anna Baretincic had three blocks for NFA (9-9). Molly Kosma had 21 digs and Sydney Tabor and Olivia Pacheco had seven kills each for the Lancers (12-6).

• Abby Diamantini had 24 digs and Indigo Whisman had 22 digs as Montville beat Norwich Tech 25-14, 19-25, 25-19, 25-23 in a nonleague match. Haley Kerwin had 10 digs and eight kills, Mackenzie Ullrich had 14 assists, and Ashley Rogers had 10 assists for Montville (6-13). Riley Riewerts had 13 digs and 10 kills, Halle Baron had 13 assists and Courtney Michaud had four blocks for the Warriors (14-6).

• Una Barrett had 12 assists as Old Lyme beat Creed, 25-11, 25-14, 25-21 in the Shoreline Conference. Natalie Golden had six kills and two aces for Old Lyme (3-17, 3-15) and Alexandra Sulmasy had four kills and three aces.

• Lyman Memorial beat Ledyard 23-25, 25-15, 25-20, 27-25. Miranda Chesnut had 14 kills and three blocks, Sela Gill had 20 assists and Katie Krupansky had nine kills for Ledyard (8-12).
