The lord of funny

- Jim Jefferies, 8 p.m. Friday, the Theater at Mohegan Sun Arena; $40-$60; 1-800-745-3000. — Rick Koster

Aussie comic Jim Jefferies is mostly famous because he's incredibly funny and his material is biting and smart. He's historically been incredibly rude and pushed all non-politically-correct envelopes, so keep that in mind. If you like that stuff, he'll make you laugh really hard. If not, stay away. Of late, though, it's worth noting Jefferies is more renowned for his archly leftist worldview and isn't remotely afraid to use his vantage point/perspective as a resident from Down Under to comment on how the rest of Earth could improve things. Naturally, at this point in history, these observations would include the current U.S. President. As Jefferies recently said to an audience in the Deep South, on his “Freedumb” Netflix special currently streaming, giving the crowd a head's up on impending political commentary: “All the specials I've recorded in the U.S. have been in New York, San Francisco and Boston ... and everyone's (hated) my liberal agenda. Well, I'm in Nashville right now, and if you wanna shoot me, now's the perfect time.”

In the special, recorded in 2016, Jefferies also does a bit about the increasing danger of attending a live performance. At the time, it was edgy but very funny. Sadly, it was also prescient — to the point where I suspect he doesn't include it any more. See for yourself Friday when he performs on his “Unusual Punishment Tour” in the Theater at Mohegan Sun Arena.
