Hadlyme — Anna Irene (Wlodarczyk) Hawthorne, 77, of Hadlyme, passed away Oct. 27, 2017, at Middlesex Hospital Hospice, after a brief illness.

Anna was born on Aug. 20, 1940, in New London, to the late Andrew and Mary (Firgeleski) Wlodarczyk. She attended elementary school in Salem, graduated from New London High School, and later attended the New London Business School. Prior to her marriage, she worked as a secretary at the Underwater Sound Lab in New London.

She married William L. Hawthorne on May 20, 1961, at the Hadlyme Congregati­onal Church in Hadlyme. They enjoyed 56 happy years together. William survives her.

In addition to her husband, Anna is survived by her two children, Linda Winzer and William L. Hawthorne Jr. and his wife, Patricia. She also leaves behind three grandchild­ren, Kevin, Alyssa, and Andrew. In addition, she is survived by two brothers, Alfred Wlodarczyk and his wife, Lori, and Edward Wlodarczyk and his partner, Terry. Also, five nieces and nephews, Michael and his wife Rachel, Pamela and her husband Alan, Richard, Steven and his partner Aimee, and Heidi and her husband Dave. In addition, eight great-nieces and great-nephews, Zofia, Violet, Max, Olivia, Callum, Madison, McKenna, and Lincoln.

She was predecease­d by her parents and twin infant brothers, John and Robert.

Anna was happiest when she was either spending time with her family or in the kitchen. Her family was her greatest joy, and her kitchen was her sanctuary. From the window in her kitchen, she would observe the hummingbir­ds that frequented the feeders she provided for them. Whether feeding hummingbir­ds or humans, her generosity knew no bounds. She will be greatly missed and remembered fondly.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Lane, Old Lyme. A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Hadlyme Congregati­onal Church, 47 Town St., Hadlyme. Burial will be private at the convenienc­e of the family.
