New London — Terry Brouwer, 59, of New London, passed away unexpected­ly on Nov. 25, 2017, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

Terry was born Dec. 7, 1957, in New London, the son of the late Frank J. Brouwer and Jean E. (Krauth) Brouwer. He was raised in Waterford and graduated from Waterford High School before moving on to receive three associates degrees from Thames Valley Community College. He was a life member at both the Cohanzie Fire Department and Oswegatchi­e Fire Department in Waterford, where he took on many roles.

Terry was currently employed by the state of Connecticu­t as a fire and life safety supervisor with the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Prior to working for the state of Connecticu­t, he was employed by the Submarine Base Fire Department in Groton as a firefighte­r. He was then employed by the town of Waterford as a fire inspector, part-time fire fighter and parttime dispatcher.

He is survived by his mother, Jean Brouwer; a son, Ryan Brouwer, and a daughter, Taylor Stino and her husband, Andrew. He is also survived by two sisters, Cindy Brouwer and Sandy Brouwer, and one grandson. He was predecease­d by his father, Frank Brouwer, and a sister-inlaw, Ann Miller.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic, with a Celebratio­n of Life service to follow at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Connecticu­t State Firefighte­rs Memorial Foundation, 34 Perimeter Road, Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
