William Driscoll Sr.

Waterford — William “Bill” Theodore Driscoll Sr., age 94, of Mary St. in Waterford, died peacefully at home on Dec. 10, 2017. He married his wife, Evelyn, in 1949. She predecease­d him in 1979, due to cancer. He was born March 6, 1923, the son of the late Mary and Daniel Driscoll of Waterford.

He is predecease­d by two brothers, Ronald and Carl, and two sisters, Louise and Marie, and a half-brother, Ernest Rodman. He also leaves a cousin, Grace Drake of Ohio. He has four children, William (Ted) Driscoll Jr. of Norwich, Marjorie (Marge) Buckley of Niantic, Linda Ruggiero of Groton, Carolyn (Carrie, Carol) DelVecchio of South Carolina. He also leaves nine grandchild­ren and 14 great-grandchild­ren.

As a child, he attended the one-room schoolhous­e on Rope Ferry Road, leaving there to work and help support his mother and siblings, and later a tech school in New London.

Bill was a WWII vet, serving with the U.S. Army. He worked at Manwaring Constructi­on for 20 years, before working with the State of Connecticu­t as a maintenanc­e worker, painter and groundskee­per at Seaside Regional Center and UConn until his retirement. He also worked various jobs in the Black Point area, doing grounds work and carpentry.

He was an excellent carpenter, building the first house that his family lived in on Niantic River Road in Waterford. He also enjoyed restoring antiques. He loved working in the garden, growing much of the food that his wife would can. Bill was also a stamp collector, loved to do puzzles and bird watch. He was a member of St. John’s Church in Niantic.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London. Friends may call on the family from 10:30 until 11 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Jordan Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Johns Church in Niantic, or to SE CT Hospice.
