Sandra Pisapia

Groton — Sandra A. Pisapia, age 69, of Groton, passed away on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

She was born in New London on Aug. 3, 1948, the daughter of Katherine Tashash Pisapia of Groton and the late John Pisapia.

She graduated from Robert E. Fitch Sr. High School, Class of 1966, and retired from Southern New England Telephone Company as a customer service representative.

Besides her mother, she is survived by a sister, Carol McCarthy of Groton.

To the surprise of no one who knew her, Sandra fought a fierce fight with cancer for five years, which ultimately ended on her own terms. Her life was marked by both her courage and her generosity for those who had the good fortune to know her. This included her two nephews, Ryan and Tyler McCarthy, who she seized every opportunity to raise and provide for as if they were her own children. She constantly inspired others and raised the bar for what a good daughter, sister and aunt can be, which she’ll continue to do for many years to come.

Visiting hours will be from noon until 2 p.m. on Thusday, Dec. 21, at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St. Private interment will be in Colonel Ledyard Cemetery, Groton.
