Groton — Mildred Ann “Millie” Jensen, 91, of Groton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at Fairview in Groton.

She was born Sept. 26, 1926, in Hartford, to Carl and Eda Johannsen Nelson. Millie was married to the late Howard Jensen for 58 years. She lived in West Hartford until 1987, when Millie and Howard retired to their home in Groton Long Point.

Millie was very active over the years. She was a volunteer with the USO in World War II, where she danced and sang, and was an excellent musician. She had a love for traveling, fishing, playing golf and bowling, and being involved with the Groton Senior Center. She volunteere­d at the Garde Theater for many years. She especially enjoyed her home in Groton Long Point, her grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. Millie was a member of the Noank Baptist Church and the Women’s Auxiliary over the years.

She is survived by daughter, Janet Greenspan of Westerly; and son, Curt H. Jensen and his wife, Hester, of Salem; 10 grandchild­ren and 13 great-grandchild­ren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by sons, Carl and Lance Jensen; daughter, Maryann Korpita; son-inlaw, Billy Greenspan; brother, Walter Nelson; sisters, Mary Steele and Margaret Nelson

A Memorial Service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at Noank Baptist Church, 18 Cathedral Heights, Noank. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in historic Mystic.

Flowers are accepted but donations can preferably be made in Millie’s honor to either The Groton Senior Center, Fairview Nursing Home in Groton or the Garde Theater in New London.
