Leonard scores 24 points as East Lyme boys beat Hand 63-52

East Lyme — Luke Leonard scored a game-high 24 points as East Lyme won its second game of the young season with a 63-52 non-conference boys' basketball victory over Hand on Tuesday night.

Leonard made three 3-pointers for the Vikings (2-0), who took a comfortabl­e 51-36 lead into the fourth quarter, and Dev Ostrowski finished with 23 points, including a perfect 6-for5 from the foul line.

It was Hand's season opener.

H.S. hockey

• Dylan Heald had a goal and an assist as the Redhawks beat the Milford co-op 5-1. Brayden LoVetere, Sam Thompson, Andrew Bannon and Steve Turchetta had goals, Spencer Flynn made 29 saves and Luke Lessard and Antonio Pisani had assists for the Redhawks (1-1).

H.S. girls' basketball

• Emily Meigs had 14 points and 10 rebounds as Montville beat St. Bernard 34-18. Emmiley Genua had seven points and six rebounds for Montville (1-1) and Carly Potts scored six points for St. Bernard (1-1).

• Sarah Serbascewi­cz scored 27 points as Ledyard beat Wheeler 70-23. Julia Lavin had 20 points, five assists and seven rebounds, Jade Langworthy scored 13 and Serbascewi­cz had seven assists and four steals for Ledyard (2-1). Savannah Galluci scored 10 points for Wheeler (1-2).

H.S. swimming

• Eain Goolsbey won two individual events and swam on two winning relays as East Lyme opened its season with a 104-82 non-conference road win over Middletown. Goolsbey won the 200-yard freestyle (1:58:52) and 500 free (5:24.66) for the Vikings. He also joined Powall Wang, Dennis Han and Jack Zhang to win the 200 freestyle (1:41.44), and swam with Zhang, Aden Lu and Robert Hahn on the winning 400 freestyle relay team (3:52.50). Hahn also won two individual events, the 200 individual medley (2:15.79) and 100 breaststro­ke (1:12.24), while Zhang won the 100 butterfly (57.67) and Erik Stelter captured the 100 free (55.97).

Men's basketball

• Mitchell College lost to St. Thomas University of Florida at Miami Gardens, 116-59. Domenico Santiago had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Hasani Williams scored 19 for Mitchell (4-7). Darwin Trotman led St. Thomas (9-3) with 19 points.
