New London — Esther Andrews, 92, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017.

She was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Fountain, N.C., the daughter of the late Dennis and Ollie Pitt. She attended school in North Carolina and furthered her education in Norfolk, Va.

In the late 1950s, she moved to New London where she met and married the late Ernest R. Andrews Jr. She was a member of the former Montauk Avenue Baptist Church. She retired from Vancom Bus Company as a very well known and liked school bus driver in New London.

She is survived by her daughters, Margie Henderson of Riverside, Calif., Saundra Christophe­r (Robert) of Cary, N.C., Sylvia Nelson (Leonard) of Groton, Dawn Artis (Michael) of Waterford, and ReGina Hill of New London. She had 10 grandchild­ren, six great-grandchild­ren, and numerous nieces and nephews; and many who claimed her as “Mama A.” She is survived by her sister, Naomi Locus (Curtis) of Rocky Mount, N.C.

She was preceded in death by two sons, infant, David Earl and Ernest “Ernie” R. Andrews III.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. Viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. preceding the service. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. where she will rest beside her late husband.
