Ledyard — William “Bill” Edward Balzer, 76, of Ledyard, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, surrounded by his family.

He was born to the late William C. and Laila (Leino) Balzer, on Sept. 17, 1941, in Queens, N.Y. Bill was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Cedarhurst, Long Island, N.Y. Following his graduation, he attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan where he persued his love of painting. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army prior to the start of the Vietnam War. Following his time in the service, Bill found employment with Electric Boat as a carpenter and would spend the next 32 years. He married Marie A. Ballato and brought his three children, William, Jennifer and Belinda, into the world. After a time, he remarried Gisele Michaud with whom he spent the remainder of his life, and welcomed his stepson, Todd Nadeau.

Bill is survived by his loving spouse, Gisele; and his children, William “Bill” and Karen Balzer of East Lyme, Jennifer LaChance of Hope Valley, R.I. and Todd and Michelle (Nadeau) of Ledyard; his grandchild­ren, Colby and Christophe­r Balzer and Victoria Jones. Bill is further survived by his two brothers, Robert Balzer of North Carolina and Randy and Cecilia Balzer of Inwood, N.Y.

Aside from his parents, Bill is predecease­d by his daughter, Belinda Balzer (2006).

A time for visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, with a service beginning at 10:30 a.m., at the Montville Funeral Home, 53 Norwich-New London Turnpike, Route 32, Uncasville. Interment will follow in the Avery Stoddard Cemetery.
