Montville — Francis “Frank” James Hobby Jr., 71, of Uncasville, died early Thursday morning, Dec. 21, 2017, at New London Rehab & Care.

Frank was a devoted husband of 50 years to his beloved wife, Dorothy (Corey) Hobby. He has three daughters he is proud of, Doreen (Hobby) Schmoegner of East Lyme, Charlene Hobby of Uncasville and Danielle (Hobby) Alcoba of Groton; and two sons-in-law, Willy Schmoegner and George Alcoba. The family was blessed with three precious grandchild­ren, Jacqueline Savana Hobby Thomas, Jett Francis Alcoba and Trace Elliot Alcoba. Frank celebrates his life surrounded by many extended family, such as Everett and Betsi Corey, Ellen and Duane Janes, Pat and Jim Knapp and Helen Silva, along with nieces and nephews. Frank has bonded with many co-workers over the years and has some strong friendship­s like Les Smith, Harold Dryer, Bob Hutchinson and Bob Decutitus.

Frank had a rich and successful life as a strong provider for his family. He took pride in that. He worked at Goodyear in Groton, then went into the Air Force in 1965 and he returned to begin his career as a ship test operation technician at Electric Boat Corporatio­n. Frank received a Distinguis­hed Shipbuilde­r award for his over 40 years of work at EB. Frank retired for medical reasons after 43 years in 2008.

Frank enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family, mowing the lawn, raking leaves, spending time at the casinos with friends, trips to the White Mountains, Cocoa Beach, and his grandchild­ren.

We ask that you bring a Christmas ornament to put on our tree that reminds you of a time or memory of Frank. Please put your name on it and we will ask you to either put it on at your convenienc­e or you can share your memory when we open up dedication time at the services being held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Thomas Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. Interment with military honors to follow at Jordan Cemetery, Waterford.
