The Day

Music all weekend

- Kristina Dorsey

Let me offer a grand understatement: this isn’t the most entertainment-heavy week of the year.

But there’s good news: the entertainment at our local casinos never rests.

The Mohegan Sun Wolf Den alone serves up a variety of concerts over a series of days. And admission is free to every last one of them.

First up tonight is Mullett, with their hair-band rock.

On Friday, it’s The Spinners. Yes, we know groups that started as long ago as The Spinners don’t usually have a whole lot of original members left. Henry Fambrough is the sole surviving original member, and he’s still out there performing. Whatever the combo of vocalists is, the good news is what they’ll be singing: the treasure trove of Spinners hits that includes “I’ll Be Around,” “One of a Kind (Love Affair),” “Games People Play” and “Working My Way Back to You.”

Then, the No BS! Brass Band brings their music, which melds New Orleans and East Coast funk sounds, to the Sun on Saturday.

The Wolf Den gets disco funky when the Boogie Wonder Band performs two shows, at 8 and 11 p.m., on New Year’s Eve. This group is a real crowd-pleaser; they’re all duded up in their Studio 54-ish finery, and they cover a slew of the dance-iest of disco hits.

Here’s a little amusing side note about the Boogie Wonder Band. When they played a “Saturday Night Live” afterparty in May, Page Six reports, one group member yelled out “Chris Pratt’s here!” The only problem: the guy who had just walked into the room was Chris Pine, not Chris Pratt. Funny, right? Pine had joked in his “SNL” opening that he gets confused with all the other acting Chris-es, so the shoutout was pretty great.

And for all those spry celebrants who are up on the morning after New Year’s Eve, the Main Street

Cruisers will play rock oldies at noon at the Wolf Den. — Mullett, 8 p.m. Thursday, Mohegan Sun Wolf Den; free. The Spinners, 8 p.m. Friday, Mohegan Sun Wolf Den; free. No BS!
