Groton — Steven F. Petrowski, 93, formerly of Montville, passed away on Wednesday morning, Dec. 27, 2017, at Fairview in Groton.

He was born in Norwich, on March 3, 1924, the son of Frank and Gladys Petrowski. Steven was married to Elsie May Carroll, in Montville, on April 19, 1947; Elsie passed away Nov. 14, 2012. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific theatre. After the war, Steven worked for Bozrah Light and Power Company retiring as a foreman.

He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Steamer of East Lyme and Patricia Davis of Uncasville; two sons, Jeffrey Petrowski of Groton and Michael Petrowski of Montville; six grandchild­ren and two great-grandchild­ren.

Besides his wife, he was predecease­d by his son, Steven F. Petrowski Jr.; and a brother, Thomas Petrowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at St. John’s Church, 22 Maple Ave., Uncasville. Interment with military honors will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be directed to the Patients Recreation Fund, Fairview, 235 Lestertown Road, Groton, CT 06340.

North Stonington — Susan (Vail) Southwick, 80, of North Stonington, beloved wife of 31 years to Lawrence Southwick, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2017.

Born in New York, N.Y., she was the daughter to the late Charles and Virginia (Snow) Vail and lived in North Stonington since 1976.

Susan began her career as a substitute teacher in the North Stonington School System. Following her short time as a substitute, she was a teacher’s aid and a second-grade teacher for the New London School System for many years up until her retirement in 1999.

She was a longtime and active member of the North Stonington Baptist Church. Susan also was a faithful participan­t with Camps Farthest Out, a national and internatio­nal organizati­on hosting Christian events and also hosted in her home for several years, members from the Northeast Men’s Quartet from Crown College.

In addition to her husband, she leaves two sisters-in-law, Paula Vail of Roanake, Va. and Sandra DiGennaro of Huntington Beach, Calif.

She was predecease­d by a brother, Charles Vail.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, followed by a service at 6 p.m., at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A private burial will take place in Old Plains Cemetery, North Stonington.
