Montville — Vera R. Wiberg, 79, of Uncasville, lost her battle to pancreatic cancer on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London.

Vera was born in 1938, in the area of Mogilev District of Belarus in the Soviet Union, to Leonid and Maria Repnin, who predecease­d her. Vera came to the port of New York with her family in 1955 and resettled in New Haven. She met and married her husband, Edward Wiberg, whom she was married to for 60 years and who predecease­d her this past August.

Vera and Edward settled in Uncasville where they raised and are survived by their three children, Susan Smith, Edward Wiberg Jr. and Lisa (Wiberg) Farrer.

Vera was a porter at Mohegan Sun Casino for 20 years where she received many awards for her customer service, attendance, and dedication to her job. Vera “Meme” was a loving and devoted grandmothe­r who was adored by her grandchild­ren. She is survived by Daniel Smith, Joshua Wiberg, Collin Good, Nicholas Wiberg, Jonny Good, Jason Good, and Alexandra Farrar; and great-grandson, Noah Towpasz Smith. She was predecease­d by her grandson, Jonathan Smith. Vera also is survived by her two sisters, Maria Scheirer of Orange and Catherine Vibbert of Middletown, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews.

Vera was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed by her family. Her strength and her spirit will long remain within each of us always.

Vera’s funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at St. James Episcopal Church, 95 Route 2A, Poquetanuc­k, Preston. There are no visiting hours, just the service.
