Stonington — Hunter Baillargeon scored 18 points as St. Bernard School remained unbeaten with a 74-68 boys' basketball victory over Stonington on Tuesday night.
Joe Beltran added 17 points and De'Andre Williams 15 for the Saints, who im- proved to 6-0. Zach Scott scored 18 points to lead Stonington (2-4). In other games: • Mikey Buscetto scored his 1,000 career point in the fourth quarter and finished with 35 overall, lifting Waterford past Plainfield 78-53.
Walker Sutman had nine points and 10 rebounds, while Max Mazzella and Liam Spellman each added 10 points for the Lancers (6-0), ranked ninth in the latest state poll. Buscetto also had eight assists.
• Trevor Hutchins had 21 points, 19 rebounds and three blocks to power Ledyard past Wethersfield 58-41. Sakye Reels scored 12 points while E.J. Ahlborn added six points, 12 rebounds and three blocks for the Colonels (3-1).
• Brandon Mayersohn scored 18 points as Norwich Tech defeated Vinal Tech 5241 in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Evender Dorcin added 12 points for the Warriors (1-3) and Giovani Yeung finished with 11.
• Brady Sheffield led Old Lyme with 19 points, scoring nine in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats defeated North Branford 59-48 in the Shoreline Conference. Ray Doll and Aedan Using had 11 points each for Old Lyme (4-2, 4-1) and Quinn Romeo played outstanding defense, according to coach Kirk Kaczor.
Girls' basketball
• Miranda Arruda finished with 14 points and eight steals and Izzy Yarnall had 12 points and 21 rebounds in Stonington's 72-21 victory over St. Bernard. Aliza Bell added 12 points, Kate Johnson 10 points and Zoe Ribeiro 10 rebounds for Stonington (4-2), which led 41-9 at halftime. Emily Nelson had 14 points, 10 rebounds and four steals for St. Bernard (25).
• Emily Meigs scored 16 points for Montville in a 2823 win over Lyman Memorial. Montville is 4-3. Hailey Tompkins had nine points and nine rebounds for Lyman (2-4).
• Amy Pinch led Waterford with 14 points as the Lancers defeated Plainfield 49-39. Marilyn Childs added 11 points for Waterford (5-2), Julianna Bonilla had 10 points and Bekah Sanders 10 rebounds. Madison Kelley scored 17 points for Plainfield (4-2).
• Vinal Tech outlasted Grasso Tech 42-34 in the Connecticut Technical Conference. Samarie Delgado led the Eagles (0-5) with 12 points, five rebounds and two blocks while Morgan McNeil added nine points and four rebounds and Hannah VandeVander had seven points and 12 rebounds.
Women's basketball
• Trinity College's Erin Cunningham made seven 3-pointers and scored 28 points to lead the Bantams past Coast Guard Academy 83-58. Gillian Gerton led Coast Guard (45) with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Jayla Joyner came off the bench to score 10 points.
• UConn forward Gabby Williams was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week. The senior scored 20 points on 10 of 10 shooting and added seven assists and four steals in the top-ranked Huskies' 97-49 win over Memphis in their AAC opener.
Men's hockey
• Bryan Platt scored two goals to rally Manhattanville to a 2-1 victory over Connecticut College. Freshman Paul Capozzi, assisted by Jacob Moreau and Chris Jellison, scored for Conn (3-6).
Women's soccer
• Margaret (Tietjen) Rodriguez, a former UConn star who has served as an assistant coach at UConn for the past 10 seasons, was named head coach. She replaces Len Tsantiris, who retired in November after 37 seasons. Rodriguez played for the Huskies from 1995-98, finishing sixth on the all-time scoring list with 43 goals and 42 assists. She helped lead UConn to three NCAA quarterfinals and one NCAA final appearance (1997) before playing professional soccer for three years in the old WUSA.
"I am grateful for this opportunity and excited to build upon the incredible success this program has had," Rodriguez said in a release. "I cannot wait to engage with the alums, many of which I have coached and or played with to generate a newfound energy and buzz with in our program. This is a dream job for me."
