James Blackburn
New London — James “J.D.” Blackburn, 79, beloved husband of Vivian Ann (Belton) Blackburn, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017. He was born in Hermanville, Miss., to the late Samuel and Ethel (Johnson) Blackburn.
James worked as a real estate developer in New London County and was well known for his work within the community. He was a member of New London United Methodist Church and, with his wife, attended New Life Christian Church in Ledyard. He was also a member of the New London Lions Club. James was a dedicated, loyal, hardworking man with many skills and talents. He greatly impacted many lives within the community.
James loved his family and attending family events. Besides his wife Vivian, James leaves to cherish his memory four children, Claudette Blackburn, Alquietta Brown (Joshua), Derrick Mungo (Melanie), and Demberia Grandy; grandchildren Jeremy, Joshua-Ryan, Kendall, Kaila, Maya, Nina and Kori Rose; his siblings, Samuel Blackburn (Delphinea), Alex Blackburn, and Mildred Jennings (Bennie); and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Calvin Blackburn.
A Home Going Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1 Garvin St., New London. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Lester Gee Funeral Home of New London.
