Jean Shutsky
Montville — Jean C. Shutsky, 88, a longtime Montville resident, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, surrounded by her family.
Born in Norwich, on Dec. 18, 1929, and raised in Plainfield, she was the daughter of Whitman and Mary (Evans) Bowen and was the loving wife of the late Jacob Shutsky. For many years, Jean worked as a rural route carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. She was a kind, caring person who loved spending time with her family and adored her grandchildren. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of the Lakes and St. John Church; was passionate about bingo at any location and enjoyed trying her luck at the casinos. She enjoyed traveling and especially loved her trips to Ireland.
She is survived by her children, Mary Brockway (Curt) of Stonington, J. Carol Chesnowitz Harvey (Brian) of Durham and Tom Shutsky (Jackie) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; seven grandchildren including, Jacob (Casey), Mark (Jessica) and Peter Harvey, Amy Meyer (Matthew), Jeffrey Brockway (Katie) and Amber and Erica Shutsky; and six great-grandchildren including, Jason, Riley, Kennedy Harvey and Emma and Hailey Meyer and Thomas Brockway. She is also survived by her siblings, Pauline Urgell, Tom Bowen and Mary LaPalme; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at St. John Church, 22 Maple Ave., Uncasville. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in her memory, recognizing her love of her grandchildren and the Red Sox.
