Ledyard — Sam F. Curcuro, 84, of Ledyard, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., to Sam and Nancy Fioretto Curcuro, on Dec. 17, 1933. He attended Lane Tech High School. In 1952, Sam moved to Pasadena, Calif., where he later joined the U.S. Air Force and completed his electronic­s degree.

Sam went on to serve in the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Medal of Good Conduct. He then moved to Alhambra, Calif. where he met Anna Pazzulla whom he married on July 17, 1957.

In 1957, Sam began a long career as an electrical engineer with Singer Librascope Co. and relocated to the east coast in 1968. He was active in his home town community in Ledyard and of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. Retiring in 1984, Sam and Anna enjoyed life on Beach Pond in Voluntown where they enjoyed many years of boating, fishing and entertaini­ng family and friends.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Nancy Curcuro; and his niece, Sandra Larkin of California.

Sam is survived by his wife, Anna; his oldest son, Salvatore (Tom) Curcuro of Griswold; daughter, Nancy (Kenneth) Gillis of Norwich; son, Donald (Adrian) Curcuro of New London; son, Adam (Danielle) Curcuro and Richard (Carrie) Curcuro both of Ledyard; grandchild­ren, Sean, Eric, Brent, Matthew, Christophe­r, Madison, Samuel, Nicholas, Natalia, Haley and Alex; his brother, Frank (Roseanne) Curcuro; and sister, Rose Danzler of California; and loving nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at Byles Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Our lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1650 Rt 12, Gales Ferry. Full Military Honors will take place after Mass. A private burial will be at a later date with family and close friends in the spring.
