Benson leads NL to victory

New London — Jalen Benson had 17 points, six steals and five assists as New London High School topped New Britain 5641 Saturday in a nonleague boys' basketball game.

Isaiah Benson had nine points and 10 rebounds and Edwardo Gonzalez scored 11 for New London (5-1).

Thameen Dupree had 13 points for the Hurricanes (2-3). In other games: • Jack Woods scored 19 and Mike Basile 16 as Immaculate handed St. Bernard its first loss of the season 69-51. Quinn Guth had 14 points for Immaculate (51). Max Lee scored 24 for St. Bernard (6-1).

• Old Lyme fell to unbeaten East Hampton in a Shoreline Conference game 69-33. Quinn Romeo had nine points and three steals for Old Lyme (4-3, 4-2). East Hampton is 7-0, 5-0.

Girls

• Kate Johnson had 12 points, six rebounds and five assists, leading Stonington to a 55-42 win over Fitch.

Aliza Bell had 15 points and six rebounds, Kate Hall scored a game-high 17 points and Miranda Arruda had four steals for Stonington (5-2).

Ciara Jimenez scored 16 points and Nyseanah Ishmael had seven rebounds for Fitch (0-7).

• Megan Solensky had 21 points as E.O. Smith closed strong to edge Norwich Free Academy 43-41. E.O. Smith outscored the Wildcats 18-6 in the fourth quarter. Makayla Poirier Vaughters scored 21 for NFA (16).

• Savannah Marshall had 19 points as Westbrook beat Wheeler 45-10. Westbrook is 1-3.

Emma Morgan had six points, five rebounds and two steals for Wheeler (2-5) and Savannah Gallucci had 10 rebounds.

Also, Molly Butremovic had four rebounds.

• Old Lyme lost to East Hampton in a Shoreline Conference game, 35-28. Audrey Gavin had 11 points and Maddie Zrenda scored eight for Old Lyme (4-2, 3-2).
