T-More advances to Founder’s title game ROUNDUP

Montville — St. Thomas More reached the final of its own Founder's Tournament with a 75-54 men's basketball win over Knox Academy on Friday.

It was coach Jere Quinn's 996th career win.

D.J. Mitchell led the Chancellor­s with 20 points while Everrette Hammond had 16 points and four assists and Jared Garcia added eight points and 10 rebounds.

St. Thomas More will play Cheshire Academy, an 85-77 winner over Bridgton Academy, the championsh­ip game on Saturday at 3 p.m. In other games: • David Labossiere had 16 points and seven rebounds, but Connecticu­t College lost to Amherest 72-57 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

Women's basketball

• Sami Ashton scored 13 points and Nancy Coulverson added seven points and nine rebounds in Connecticu­t College's 72-40 loss to topranked Amherst. Madeline Eck led Amherst (15-0, 2-0 NESCAC), the defending national champion, with 19 points and the Mammoths led 34-17 at halftime. Conn (9-4, 1-2) was playing without leading scorer Mairead Hynes due to an ankle injury. The Camels play at home again Saturday against NESCAC opponent Hamilton.

Women's hockey

• Sophomore Ellie Branka scored her first collegiate goal to highlight Conn College's 3-0 win over Wesleyan in the NESCAC. Elena Gualtieri added a goal and an assist for the Camels (9-3-1, 6-1) while Kylie Wilkes added a goal and goalie Bailey Mertz earned the shutout with nine saves.

Men's hockey

• Merrimack erupted for three goals in the third period to defeat UConn 3-0 in Hockey East. The Huskies (8-15-2, 5-10-1) were shut out for the third time in four games. Goalie Adam Huska made 35 saves for UConn, which was outshot 38-16.

H.S. wrestling

• Ledyard went 2-0 during a home quad meet, defeating Conard 62-16 and Middletown 38-36, but losing to Guilford 37-31. J'mari Lowman (106, 113 pounds), Dennis Charles (145, 152) and Richard Mullaney (285) each went 3-0 for the Colonels (8-7).

H.S. swimming

• Fitch/Stonington/Ledyard/Norwich Tech opened its season with a 105-61 victory over Waterford in the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference. A.J. Murko won the 200-meter freestyle (2:16.74) and 100 backstroke (1:09.91) for the Falcons and John Marcolina captured the 200 individual medley (2:28.33) and 100 butterfly (1:04.34). Marcolina was also on two winning relay teams along with Joe Vignato and Chase Simao, who each captured an individual event — Vignato the 50 free (28.29) and Simao the 100 breaststro­ke (1:19.42). Jason Blain won the diving competitio­n for the Lancers (0-2, 0-2) with 136.95 points.

• East Lyme swept a tri-meet at home defeating Haddam-Killingwor­th 97-81 and New London 97-36 in the ECC. Jack Mucciarone won two events for the Vikings (4-2, 2-0), the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.81) and 500 freestyle (5:09.00), while Robert Hahn won the 200 IM (2:15.65), Ben Prouty won the diving competitio­n (206.95 points) and Mucciarone teamed up with Eain Goolsbey, Dennis Han and Eric Gu to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:41.51. New London, which didn't score against H-K, is 0-2, 0-2.

• Jeffery Ng and Jay Lin won two individual events as Norwich Free Academy remained unbeaten with a 101-80 ECC win over Windham/ RHAM/Coventry. Ng won the 200 IM and 100 breaststro­ke while Lin captured the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle for the Wildcats (2-0), who also picked up individual wins from Wyatt Gordon (200 free) and Keith Johnson (100 free).

H.S. gymnastics

• NFA's Arihana Cohen won three individual events and captured allaround honors to lead NFA past Old Lyme 126.35-118.65. Cohen won the vault (8.5 points), bars (8.45) and beam (9.0) for the Wildcats (1-0) finishing with 34.65 in the all-around. Teammate Anna Cirello won the floor routine (8.8) and placed third in the all-around (32.35) while Maria Denya led Old Lyme by placing second in the all-around (33.15).
