Wheeler girls beat Griswold 28-26 to end losing streak

North Stonington — Emma Morgan had a double-double, 11 points and 12 rebounds, as Wheeler ended a fivegame losing streak with a 28-26 victory over Griswold in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division III girls' basketball game on Tuesday night.

Morgan also had five assists and four steals for the Lions (3-8, 1-5), while Savannah Galluci had six points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Sam Caster had eight points, six rebounds and three steals. In other games: • Kate Hall scored 18 points and Miranda Arruda added 11 in Stonington's 45-43 loss to Woodstock Academy in ECC Division II play. Aliza Bell added six points and 14 rebounds for the Bears (7-4, 3-2).

• Chloe LaPierre had 12 points to pace Plainfield past St. Bernard 46-25 in an ECC Division III game. Emily Nelson had 12 points and Amber Caldwell 10 rebounds for the Saints (3-9, 2-4).

• Bacon Academy cruised to a 4416 victory over Montville in an ECC Division II game. Emily Meigs had six points and six rebounds for the Indians (4-6, 0-4).

Boys' basketball

• Omar Rahman scored a gamehigh 20 points to lift Waterford past Killingly 79-36 in ECC Division II action. Liam Spellman chipped in eight points, 10 rebounds and eight assists and Mikey Buscetto added 14 points and seven assists for the Lancers (9-0, 3-0), who scored 32 points in the third quarter to pull away.

• Hunter Baillargeo­n scored a gamehigh 28 points in St. Bernard's 69-67 loss to Plainfield in ECC Division III action. Joseph Beltran and Max Lee had 11 and 10 points, respective­ly, for the Saints (8-2, 3-1).

• Max Gregory scored 22 as Griswold downed Wheeler 68-31 in an ECC Division III game. Ian Spracklin scored 12 for Wheeler (2-8, 0-4).

• Ethan McAvoy scored four points for Grasso Tech in an 82-29 loss to Tourtellot­te.

Women's basketball

• Junior Francesca Pinard came off the bench to contribute a season-best 16 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, helping Mitchell College beat Dean College 66-57 in the New England Collegiate Conference. Ashleigh Beauford had 11 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double while Allegra Jones added 13 points and Kate McCormack had a career-best 12 assists to tie the school's Division III single game record for the Mariners (6-9, 5-2), who've won four of their last five games. Dean fell to 7-5, 4-1.

• Tatyana LaFrance-Boyce had 39 points and 12 rebounds to lift Avery Point to a 93-72 win over Gateway Community College in a Region 21 game. Meagan Bianchi added 12 points and 11 assists for the Pointers (12-5, 6-1) while Edona Thaqi had 10 points and 14 rebounds and Hannah LeBeau finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Men's basketball

• Domenico Santiago (27 points) was one of three Mitchell players to score over 20 as it flattened Wheelock 94-75 in the NECC. Hasani Williams had 23 points and 10 rebounds and Steffan Brunson added 25 points and 3 steals for the Mariners (8-7, 4-0), which scored 47 in both halves. Alan Morgan added 8 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds.

Women's hockey

• Katlyn Paiva scored the game-winning goal with 11 minutes left in the third period to lift Connecticu­t College past host Castleton (Vt.), 3-2, in a non-conference game. Jordan Cross had two assists, including setting up Paiva's goal. Lily Connolly scored her sixth goal of the season and Kyla Floresca also scored for the Camels (10-3-2).

Men's hockey

• Brenden Russ scored his first collegiate goal late in overtime to push Conn College past Worcester State, 3-2, in non-conference action. William White and Chris Jellison each scored a goal in the third period for the Camels (6-8).

Wolves change starting time

• The New England Black Wolves announced that Sunday's game against the Rochester Knighthawk­s at Mohegan Sun Arena has been moved up to a 1 p.m. start to allow fans to catch the start of the AFC Championsh­ip game between the Patriots and Jacksonvil­le Jaguars, which is scheduled to begin at 3:05 p.m.

"New England sports fans are some of the most passionate in the world," Sun vice president of sports Amber Cox said in a release. "This earlier start time allows our growing and loyal fan base to enjoy an important East Division game with Rochester before moving on to bars or restaurant­s all over Mohegan Sun to watch the Patriots."
