CRASH VICTIM HELPS EAST LYME POLICE MAKE DUI ARREST

East Lyme — Police said they charged a local man with driving under the influence Sunday after the driver whose car he hit followed him until officers could apprehend him.

Police said Charles B. Crosby, 54, of 127 Black Point Road, Apt. 38, Niantic, was driving his Ford Escape west on West Main Street around 7:30 p.m. Sunday when he struck another vehicle. According to police, Crosby continued driving west and so did the driver of the car he struck.

Police said the female driver of the car called 911 to report what had happened as well as to update emergency personnel on Crosby’s location.

Officers, assisted by troopers from state police Troop F in Westbrook, stopped Crosby near the Interstate 95 southbound Exit 70 off-ramp. Police said he failed field sobriety tests.

Crosby faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, evading responsibi­lity and following too closely.

Released on a $500 nonsurety bond, he is due in New London Superior Court Feb. 2. warrant had been issued for her arrest.

Camp said police were contacted in October by The Partner Network real estate firm at 210 W. Town St., Norwich, which suspected an employee might have embezzled several thousand dollars from the firm. A forensic audit was conducted and discovered $71,766.96 was missing over several years. The missing funds included $54,483.12 in unauthoriz­ed checks and $17,283.84 in unauthoriz­ed credit card charges, Camp said.

Boyd worked as the company’s bookkeeper and was responsibl­e for all financial transactio­ns and accounts, Camp said. No further arrests are expected in the case.

Eric Greenstein, co-owner and managing broker for The Partner Network, declined to comment on the situation, except to say Boyd worked for the firm on and off, but “mostly on” for 37 years.
