No. 9 Montville wrestlers rout No. 7 Killingly

Montville — The Montville wrestling team capped off its regular season with a bang.

The Indians, ranked ninth in the latest Connecticu­t Wrestling Online state poll, beat No. 7 Killingly 54-18 on Monday night. In avenges a 45-27 loss to the Redmen on Dec. 30 at the Killingly Duals.

Montville (17-2) got pins from Nick Tibbetts (285 pounds), Zack Navarrete (152) and Dane Concascia (182), while Quinn Bond (113) and Sawyer Kury (126) also won their matches.

Killingly (31-2) forfeited five other matches, as both teams were missing wrestlers due to illness or resting them for this weekend's Eastern Connecticu­t Conference tournament.

Boys' basketball

• Isiah and Jalen Benson combined for 39 points and 13 steals as New London rolled to a 95-72 victory over Windham. Isiah Benson finished with 20 points and six steals (he also had 15 rebounds) and Jalen had 19 points and seven steals for the Whalers (12-4), who led 45-35 at halftime before outscoring Windham 28-13 in the third quarter to break to the game open. Elijah Martinez led New London in scoring with 24 points and Gio Lopez finished with 13.

• Unbeaten East Hampton used a strong second quarter to outlast Old Lyme 69-57 in the Shoreline Conference. Old Lyme (11-5, 10-4) led 11-10 after the first before the Bellringer­s (15-0, 13-0) outscored the Wildcats 26-14 in the second, highlighte­d by Tom Close's 25-foot 3-pointer at the buzzer. Close made five 3-pointers and finished with 23 points. Aedan Using scored 20 points for Old Lyme, all in the second half, while Brady Sheffield added 14 and Quinn Romeo 10.

• Evender Dorcin scored 14 points, but Norwich Tech lost to Ellis Tech 67-58 in the Connecticu­t Technical Conference. The Warriors are 4-11.

Girls' basketball

• Old Lyme couldn't overcome a cold shooting night and lost to East Hampton 32-19 in the Shoreline Conference. Britney DeRoehn and Emma McCulloch scored six points apiece for the Wildcats (10-6, 9-6).

• Norwich Tech lost to Ellis Tech in a CTC game, 48-27. Julia Robert led Norwich Tech (2-13) with nine points.

Women's basketball

• Micaela Martinelli had 16 points, five rebounds and three assists as Coast Guard beat Elms 64-38 in a nonleague game. Gillian Gerton had 12 points and seven rebounds for Coast Guard (11-10).
