Raymond Peabody III
Waterford — Raymond “Skip” Avery Peabody III died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital from complications due to the flu.
Skip was born Aug. 25, 1950 to Raymond Avery Peabody Jr. and Jean (Hislop) Peabody. His father predeceased him.
He is survived by his mother, Jean; daughter, Jennifer Burdy; son, Raymond Avery Peabody IV; sister, Ann Peabody, all of Waterford, and sister, Ellyn Peabody of Oakland, Calif. Grandsons Jacob Bergeson, Jackson Bergeson, Lachlan Burdy; and great-grandson, Finnegan Bergeson, also survive him.
Skip lived in Waterford his entire life and graduated from Waterford High School in 1968. He was a life member of the Goshen volunteer fire department, where he served many years as a volunteer firefighter and an EMT. He retired from Electric Boat Co. as a marine draftsman and afterward worked for the Shaw Group, Nuclear Division in Stoughton, Mass. He attended Johnson and Wales University and received a culinary arts degree in 1995.
He was very interested in genealogy and local history and was a member of the 5th Connecticut Civil War Reenactment Group and the Waterford Historical Society. In his early years, he drove a stock car at Waterford Speedbowl and retained a lifelong interest in car racing and watching NASCAR. He also was a fan of UConn women’s basketball.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb., 10, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London. Burial will be private.
