Mystic — Lawrence W. Brown, 86, a recent resident of Stoneridge in Mystic, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at Avalon Health Care. He was the loving husband of Anita (LePage) Brown of Lewiston, Maine, for over 50 years, and was the son of the late Lawrence and Ethel (Sawyer) Brown of Raymond, Maine. He was also predecease­d by his brother and best friend, Paul Brown.

Bill was a retired physical science teacher of 35 years at Fitch Junior High School in Groton. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Southern Maine (Gorham State) and master’s degree in education from Boston University, and received a science foundation grant to study geology in Utah. He was also a teaching member of Project Oceanology at Avery Point.

Bill was a U.S. Army veteran and a lifelong member of the Groton Sportsmen’s Club. Bill was also an avid hunter, hiker and fisherman and he will be remembered for his wit and charm, his love for nature and especially his devotion to his family.

During his working years, he lived in Stonington, where he and his wife raised their family. Being with his family was most important to Bill, spending many weekends at the family camp they built on Little Sebago Lake in Windham, Maine.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his four children, Linda Botello and her husband, Christophe­r, of Hingham, Mass., Douglas Brown and his wife, Susan, of Barrington, R.I., Karen Conrad and her husband, Mark, of Palm Beach, Fla., and Kathy Brown of West Springfiel­d, Mass.; sister, Nancy Hazard of Westminste­r, Mass.; seven grandchild­ren, Christophe­r, Michael, Nicolas, Mark and Matthew Botello, Sophia Brown, and Samantha Conrad; and one great-granddaugh­ter, sweet-sweet Caroline.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Stoneridge in the Community Chart Room, 186 Jerry Browne Road, Mystic.
