East Lyme swimmers win onther ECC regular-season title

East Lyme — East Lyme put the finishing touches on the Eastern Connecticut Conference regular-season swimming championship by sweeping a tri-meet against Waterford and New London on Friday afternoon.

The Vikings (12-2, 10-0) defeated Waterford 91-75 and New London 95-59. The Lancers (2-8, 2-7) and Whalers (0-10, 0-10) did not compete against each other.

Eric Gu (200-yard freestyle, 2:11.13), Ricky Zhang (200 individual medley, 2:24.64), Ben Prouty (diving, 227.20 points), Jack Lombardo (100 butterfly, 1:10.41), Powall Wang (100 free, 57.44) and Jack Mucciarone (500 free, 5:10.86) all won individual events for East Lyme whle Zhang, Han, Eain Goolsbey and Alexander Li teamed up to win the 200 medley relay (2:03.96.)

Waterford picked up a pair of individual wins from Thomas Emery (100 backstroke, 1:15.44) and Logan Bowdish (100 breaststroke, 1:15.18) while also capturing the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Boys’ basketball

• Dev Ostrowski and JR Gandenberger combined for 43 points and 10 3-pointers as East Lyme cruised to a 72-52 victory over Montville.

Ostrowski made six 3-pointers and finished with 24 points while Gandenberger finished with 19 points and four 3-pointers. Luke Leonard added 12 points for the Vikings (17-2) while John Domijan scored a game-high 26 points for the Indians (316).

• New London scored a season-high for points in a 102-40 win over Killingly. Jalen Benson scored 28 points and Edwardo Gonzalez had 22 while Elijah Martinez added 21 points and Gio Lopez had four points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for the Whalers (14-6), who made 14 3-pointers.

• Aedan Using scored 21 points with four steals to help Old Lyme beat Westbrook 58-32 in a Shoreline Conference tilt. The Wildcats (13-5, 12-4) led just 2624 at the half, but used a 23-2 run in the third quarter to pull away. Brady Sheffield contributed 10 points in the victory.

• Cliff Jones scored 31 points as Windham defeated Wheeler 67-44 in an ECC Division III game. Bowen Baker had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Lions (2-18, 0-12).

• Zain Alam of Williams School scored 25 points, but the Blues lost to Central Christian Academy 65-49 on Thursday. Grayson Guinan had nine points for Williams (2-13).

Girls’ basketball

• Today's forecast for snowfall during the evening has forced the Eastern Connecticut Conference to adjust its tournament schedule.

The ECC, which will hold its Division I and II semifinals at Norwich Free Academy, has moved the final game of the day — No. 2 NFA vs. No. 6 Bacon Academy in Division I — from 6:30 p.m. to 10 a.m., and pushed the start of the other Division I game between No. 1 New London and No. 4 Stonington from 4:30 p.m. to 4. The two Division II games will be played as scheduled: No. 2 Lyman Memorial vs. No. 3 Windham at noon and No. 1 Plainfield vs. No. 4 Waterford at 2 p.m.

• Old Lyme's quarterfinal round game in the Shoreline Conference tournament has also moved up its starting time. The fifth-seeded Wildcats will travel to No. 4 North Branford at 4 p.m. The original starting time was 5.

Men’s basketball

• Everette Hammond had 22 points, six rebounds and six assists, leading St. Thomas More past Notre Dame Prep, 7971. Adrein Nunez scored 17 points and hit two big three-pointers in the final three minutes while D.J. Mitchell had 10 points and Brandon Martin added eight points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Chancellors (17-13).

Women’s hockey

• Connecticut College remains in second place in the New England Small College Athletic Conference after battling Hamilton to a 0-0 overtime tie. Bailey Mertz made 29 saves for the Camels (14-4-5, 9-2-4), who held a 34-29 edge in shots.

Men’s hockey

• Junior Maxim Letunov scored on a backhander at the 2:51 mark of overtime to lift UConn over No. 20 Boston University, 5-4, for its seventh straight win. Trailing 4-2 in the third period, the Huskies (15-16-2, 11-11-1 Hockey East) scored three unanswered goals. Spencer Naas scored twice, and Kasperi Ojantakanen and Alexander Payusov also scored. Tanner Creek stopped 27 shots.

• Jacob Moreau scored two first-period goals, but Conn College had to settle for a 2-2 overtime tie with Colby in the NESCAC. Paul Capozzi and Ryan Petti each had an assist for Conn (9-10-4, 8-5-4).

College baseball

• Wheeler graduate Troy Stefanski, Conor Moriarity and Isaac Feldstein all hit solo home runs in UConn's season-opening 7-3 loss at Kennesaw State in Georgia. Stefanski went 3-for-4 for the Huskies.
