POLICE ARREST WOMAN ACCUSED OF TAKING CHILD FROM HOSPITAL

Shane Jicha, 45, of 172 Washington St. was charged Thursday with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving with a suspended license, evading responsibi­lity and failure to drive right.

Jubilee Garay, 23, of 219 Broadway, Unit 1, was charged Thursday with breach of peace.

Victriana Delacruz, 64, of 23 Manwaring Road was charged Thursday with breach of peace and third-degree assault.

Casey Scott, 29, of 83 Mansfield Road, New London, was charged Thursday with failure to appear in court and driving with a refused, suspended or revoked license.

Timothy Douchette, 34, of 28 Oak St., Norwich, was charged Thursday with fifth-degree larceny.

Andrew Senuta, 30, of 18 West Town St., Norwich, was charged Thursday with failure to appear in court.

New London — Police on Friday arrested a woman for allegedly taking her 3-yearold daughter from Lawrence + Memorial Hospital last week despite a medical hold and not having custody of the child.

India Quinones, 29, of 18 Grove St. was charged with second-degree custodial interferen­ce and risk of injury on Friday afternoon.

Police say on Wednesday, Feb. 14, Quinones took her daughter, a patient at L+M. The incident led to a Silver Alert being issued for the child, who, along with Quinones, was found two days later at 8 Bristol St. after someone reported their whereabout­s to authoritie­s.

Police said last week they took the child back to the hospital for treatment and the state Department of Children and Families has custody of the child. Quinones was arrested at 8 Bristol St. on Friday after an investigat­ion into the incident.

She is being held on a $150,000 cash bond. which state police said remains under investigat­ion.

Vasquez was the passenger of a Honda Accord that collided with a truck and ended up off the road just south of Exit 13, police said. About 1:46 a.m., authoritie­s received several calls reporting the crash.

Members of the Yantic Fire Engine Co. No. 1 said Yantic and East Great Plain firefighte­rs worked for 17 minutes to extricate the driver of the car, Felix Flores, 43, of New Haven, who was transporte­d by American Ambulance to Backus Hospital with serious injuries.

Vasquez was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver, Nelson Perez-Aybar, 31, of New Jersey, suffered no apparent injuries, police said.

The state Department of Transporta­tion said the crash prompted the temporary closure of the right lane, which has since been reopened.

Department of Transporta­tion officials said the wreck happened about 12:45 p.m. Thursday, less than a mile beyond Exit 81. The state police accident report stated there was one reported minor injury.

According to the report, DOT was assisting a contractor doing emergency repairs on the Oil Mill Road overpass on I-95 South, causing a traffic backup.

The driver of the ShopRite tractor-trailer, Raul Ponce, 47, of Clifton, N.J., was charged with following too close after failing to slow for traffic and rear-ending the second and third vehicles involved, the report stated.

After impact, the second vehicle struck the sides of the fourth and fifth vehicles, and the third vehicle struck the rear and side of the sixth vehicle, according to the report. The sixth vehicle then rear-ended the seventh.

I-95 South was closed in the area of the crash for about an hour and a half, and at one point traffic was backed up almost to the Gold Star Memorial Bridge. of marijuana with intent to sell.

Ledyard police Officer Jason Pudvah was on patrol near Route 12 and River Road when he saw a White Pontiac G5 cross over the white fog line into the breakdown lane, police said.

He pulled the vehicle over and found that Sims, the only person in the car, had three ounces of marijuana packaged for sale and more than $2,900 in cash.

Sims was held on a $5,000 bond.
