Southingto­n — Richard “Russ” Parenteau, 78, of Southingto­n, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, in Meriden.

He was born in New London, Jan. 29, 1940, the son of Arthur and Catherine (Shea) Parenteau. He was a graduate of New London High School and was most recently employed as a carpet specialist for Home Depot. He had previously operated the Party Bazaar in Clinton and the Colonial Postman in New London. For 20 years he managed the Card and Party Store in Meriden Square. He was an avid fisherman and a former member of the Jaycees.

He married Dixie Helms, in October of 1962, in Old Saybrook; she survives him.

In addition to his wife, Dixie, he is survived by two sons, Shawn and Ian Parenteau of Southingto­n; and a sister, Maureen Ranquist of Bozrah. He is also survived by a sisterin-law, Judie Frieden and her husband, Richard; cousins, Gene Stubelick, Mary Ficarra, Michael Shea; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predecease­d by a son, Brooks Parenteau; a brother, Brian Parenteau; and a sister, Lorna Christians­on.

A memorial service will be held at noon Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
