Readers of theday.com had some fun reacting to the wire story, “Drinking alcohol key to living past 90, study says,” which found that subjects who drank about two glasses of beer or wine a day were 18 percent less likely to experience a premature death.

“Yay. There is so much good news in the study.”

—Jalo

“The article does not mention the subjects of the study live in Laguna Woods retirement community (not a nursing home for low income subjects). Also the beverages that helped you live longer included coffee as well as alcohol. So you can assume being able to afford a luxurious retirement community to live in, as well as affordable health care, are key to longevity also. The subjects were taken from this community only. Nice golf course and country club there. I'd say stress-free lifestyle!”

“Daily drink- check. A little overweightcheck. Daily coffee- check. This is evidence that there is indeed a God and he loves us!”

—Wylie

“It’s interesting the headline focuses on drinking, but the highest impact was from a hobby. I still think diet and exercise (greater than 45 minutes a day) together is a better way to live.”

“I’m going to live forever!”

—Deebs74

“So if I drink coffee and beer is it a multiplier effect? Need to know.”

—Fiscal Guy

“So if your hobby is to walk to the neighbor's house while drinking a beer, have a coffee, and drink another on the way home, you’re good!”

“This is my favorite work of science ever!” —CTgirl
