Mystic — Linda-Kay (Hughes) Wood, beloved wife of 58 years to Robert T. Wood, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, after a long battle with cancer.

Born April 29, 1944, she was the daughter to the late William and Katherine-Ida (Gilleney) Hughes, and lived in Mystic for most of her life. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Fitch High School.

She was a teacher’s aide for students with special needs for the Mystic and Groton School systems until her retirement.

Linda-Kay was involved with both Boy and Girl Scouts, enjoyed reading, canning, gardening, various needle works, puzzles and playing games. She loved gospel and country music and mystery and game shows. Linda-Kay also enjoyed boating with her husband, family and friends and was a summer resident at the Brewer Yacht Yard in Mystic.

In addition to her husband, she leaves her children, Robert T. Wood II, Michael Wood and his wife Shannon, Doreen-Lin and her husband Michael Dickerson, and William B. Wood, and raising granddaugh­ters, RoxAnne and Seannah; 11 grandchild­ren; 12 great-grandchild­ren; and her sister, Jeanie Blanton and her husband, Thomas. She was predecease­d by her daughter, Julie-Ann (Wood) Daimler and a granddaugh­ter, Aleesha Wood.

Her family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery, Route 27, in Mystic.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any breast cancer charity of one’s choice.
