Uncasville — Stephen Richard Davis Wilmot, 23, of Uncasville, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 22, 2018, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Stephen died at the scene of the accident and was pronounced at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

He was born in New London on Feb. 24, 1994. He attended St. Mary Star of the Sea School in New London. His family relocated to Fort Wayne, Ind., where he then attended Bishop Dwanger High School, and graduated with honors. He was a member of the school’s concert and marching bands and performed with the Dwanger Drum Corps. He had attended the University of Connecticu­t. Stephen was an Eagle Scout. His Eagle project was to build a garden shrine at St. Anne’s Home & Retirement Community in Fort Wayne in memory of his grandfathe­r, Richard “Pap” Cole. He and his grandpa were bingo volunteers at St. Anne. Stephen was a Columbian Squire with the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Council of the Knights of Columbus in Niantic. Stephen was a longtime altar server.

He is survived by his mother Virginia Wilmot, and her partner Chris Vara, of Uncasville; his grandmothe­r Amy Cole of Waterford; his Aunt Tammy and Uncle Sherman Stenson of Austin, Texas; Aunt Gina and Uncle Matt Pyzalski of Ledyard; and Uncle Scott and Aunt Claudia Cole of Westport, Mass. Stephen is also survived by his cousins, Joshua, Jillian, and Alexis Cole; David, John and his wife Hannah Stenson; and Ashley and Lily McCarthy.

He was predecease­d by his grandpa, Richard “Pap” Cole, and his brother, Cole Dean Wilmot.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Feb. 26, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, followed by interment in West Neck Cemetery, Waterford.
