UConn men to play in 2018 2K Classic

- — Gavin Keefe

UConn will join Syracuse, Oregon and Iowa in the field for the 2018 2K Classic in November.

The event will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

The four teams will play in the championship rounds that run Nov. 15-16 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The tournament also includes some preliminary round games. Potential opponents include Eastern Washington, Green Bay, Morehead State and University of Missouri-Kansas City.

The schedule and pairings will be announced at a later date.

UConn will be making its fourth appearance in the 2K Classic, previously playing in 1999, 2007 and 2013. The Huskies are 8-2 in those games, including beating Boston College and Indiana in the 2013 championship round to win the tournament title.

The Huskies played two of their potential 2K Classic opponents this season.

They lost to Oregon, 71-63, in the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Ore., on Nov. 23 and dropped a 72-63 decision to Syracuse in the Jimmy V Classic Dec. 5 at Madison Square Garden.

They've faced Iowa three times, losing the last meeting, 70-68, in November 1999 in a Coaches vs. Cancer game at Madison Square Garden.

Tickets for the 2018 championship round games go on sale Wednesday through Ticketmaster.com
