Norwich — Albert Peter Jowdy Jr., 63, of Norwich passed away unexpected­ly on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at his home.

He was born in Norwich to Jeanette F. (Socha) Jowdy of Bozrah and the late Albert P. Jowdy Sr. Albert grew up in Bozrah and was a graduate of Norwich Regional Technical School. In his early years, he worked as a lineman for the former SNET. Eventually, Albert moved to Stamford and then on to New York City and Bayonne, N.J.

In N.Y.C., he was a driver for Yellow Cab taxi service and truly enjoyed the many people he would meet. We all enjoyed listening to him tell us about his interestin­g adventures. Al also welcomed anyone who wanted a walking tour of the city, since he loved and knew the city so well. He liked to write and self-published a book he wrote.

Motorcycle riding, which included motor cross and stunt performanc­es at the racetrack, were favorite past times of Al’s during his youth. He was a loving son, brother and uncle who will be missed.

Besides his loving mother, he is survived by two sisters, Catherine Driscoll of Waterford and Valerie Chapman and her husband, Lawrence, of Old Lyme; and a brother, Michael Jowdy of Bozrah. He also leaves behind nieces Jacqueline Driscoll of Royal Oak, Mich., Caitlin Chapman of Denver, Colo., Shannon and Jennifer; and nephew Daniel of Old Lyme; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Besides his father, Al was predecease­d by a brother, Paul M. Jowdy; and his brother-inlaw, James H. Driscoll.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday with a funeral service held at 11 a.m., at Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich. Burial will be private and at the convenienc­e of the family.
